Cannot update without disabling Pi-Hole
I failed multiple times to update today. This is not unusual for me. I'll get to the screen that shows a progress bar for a data download, and then the data count will freeze and never move. Previously I've just tried however many times, using Alt+F4 or Task Manager to kill useless instances of Arena.
Today I tried disabling my Pi-Hole DNS blackhole. This device is used to prohibit traffic on my web connections if it's to/from places I don't like. "Places I don't like" is kind of a subscription model where nerds connected to PiHole manage the lists and update them to block as much bad stuff as they can without breaking the good stuff. The purpose is largely for privacy from ad surveillance, and a little bit ad reduction but it's compatible with other ad blockers.
Are you trying to use a cloud provider to shove heavy update downloads around, and it's being delivered in a way that REQUIRES One Of the Bad Addresses to be resolvable? For instance, if you used GCP, and Google decided to sneak a peak at my unique identifiers prior to delivering your payload, and the sneak peak was through their ad network where they've got my browser fingerprints and all that, I'd expect this outcome.
Prior to disabling the PiHole I could play Arena for months with no issues. Prior to disabling the PiHole the updates failed predictably and reproducibly. After disabling the PiHole temporarily, I was able to update with no issue. I've got default settings plus a few domains I put in myself.
