Protection from color
Just lost a ranked match because I couldn’t allocate where to send damage because my opponents creature had protection from green and it gave me no options but to sit there and concede.

Confimation is only possible if the damage assignment is legal, and all combat damage has been assigned. In your screenshot, you had to assign at least 6 of the 7 damage from the Forerunners to the protected Harbinger, and the last point to either the Harbinger or the player.

Yeah it brought me to the assign damage spot but had no option to complete the step, I could move the arrows but not confirm my decision anywhere.

Whenever there is a damage prevention effect online (like protection) when combat damage has to be distributed, there will be arrows above and below the damage numbers of the recipients (white for the ones you can use at that moment, gray for the ones you cannot use at that moment, like you cannot go to negative damage). As it says on the screen:
Assign Combat Damage
Use arrows to assign damage
