Descend mechanic not working
During a recent game, I had a creature with Descend out. I had a creature leave the battlefield and enter the graveyard, satisfying the Descend ability, yet, the ability did not trigger.

Was that creature represented by a card, or was it a token? Tokens cannot enable descent, only actual cards do.
Also, not all descend abilities go off right away, some are end of turn triggers with an intervening-if clause checking descend. Such intervening-if clauses also have to be fulfilled prior to the trigger point in time. They are part of the trigger condition. The whole trigger condition has to be true for the trigger to go of. So you cannot descend in response to such a trigger, since the trigger never fired to be respoonded to, nor will it retroactively trigger.
