Severe FPS Drops During Matches on Mac (Steam) – 10–40 FPS, Recovers After Match Ends
Platform: MacBook Pro / macOS (latest version) / Steam
Issue:
I started experiencing unusual performance issues shortly before the October 7 maintenance.
Before this issue appeared, MTG Arena ran smoothly on my MacBook Pro even with graphics settings set to the highest quality.
After the maintenance and update were completed, I launched the game again, but the performance issues persisted.
Actual Results:
- During matches, FPS fluctuates significantly between approximately 10 and 40 FPS, causing severe stuttering and noticeably choppy gameplay.
- As soon as a match ends and the victory/defeat result is determined, FPS immediately recovers to over 50.
- The issue appears to occur only during active matches.
- Lowering graphics quality from the highest setting to the lowest setting does not improve performance.
- Repairing the game client did not resolve the issue.
Expected Results:
The game should run smoothly during matches, as it did previously, even at the highest graphics settings.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Launch MTG Arena through Steam on a MacBook Pro.
2. Start a match.
3. Observe the FPS counter using Steam's FPS overlay.
4. FPS fluctuates between approximately 10 and 40, with severe stuttering.
5. Finish the match and observe FPS immediately returning to over 50.
Additional Information:
My MacBook Pro is kept up to date with the latest macOS updates. The problem began shortly before the October 7 maintenance and continued after the update.
Please investigate whether a recent client update has introduced a performance regression affecting Mac users during matches.
