Skilled Battlecarver/Yoshimaru
I have Skilled Battlecarver out. It says that it has first strike when its my turn. Now i play Yoshimaru, Scrappy Stray and can let one of my cratures fight another one. I choose my battlecarver and an enemy creature that dies from it. My battlecarver dies as well however. This happened twice now and i suspect it doesnt account for the firststrike even though its my turn. Is that a bug or am i misunderstanding something?

You are misunderstanding.
First strike, and double strike, can only apply to combat. Because both abilities merely add a second combat damage step to the combat phase when there is at least one creature with either ability involved in combat. Creatures with either ability get to deal combat damage in the first combat damage step. All other attackers and blockers, plus all double strikers, then get to deal combat damage in the second combat damage step. This results in first strikers and double strikers potentially taking out their adversaries before they can strike back. Hence "first strike".
A fight is not combat, it has no combat damage steps. Neither first strike nor double strike can do anything in a fight.
