Happening frequently, but not 100% of the time. Doesn't matter if the decks are starter decks or not. Very frustrating that this still hasn't been fixed after years.

I played a lot of games with my friend but now whenever we challenge each other it says "unable to submit deck". We tried logging out and many other things but it doesn't work.

Network Error when challenging friends. After selecting deck, and clicking challenge, a network error appears. Tried on PC and iOS. Same issue. Apps are up to date. Restarted app. Issue persists.

Issues with two players trying to join a match on two different PC's but on the same Wifi network. The first person starting the match can load in, but the second person gets a network error code. Sometimes it says its unable to submit the deck sometimes as well.

One friendly game went through after a few tries and retries, so this seems to be a server side issue.
One of us did create a deck just for the purpose, the other stuck to the same starter deck (selected from 'my decks'). Maybe some caches had time to clear as a side effect, or the server load went down randomly meanwhile. Even after the deck creation, the one who did NOT create a deck got forward first, and the deck creator had to restart a few more times to get in. So it does not seem to be clearly resolvable clientside, just need to try a million times.

Same problem here.
- Running up to date Steam on Linux (Ubuntu) with Proton for Windows emulation (Steam defaults).
- Steps to reproduce:
1) have a friend
2) send challenge to friend, all defaults
3) choose a 'my decks' plains default deck (if you choose the same as a starter deck, you fail at 'Unable to submit deck' instead, and the same network error occurs).
4) Wait a good while for 'waiting for server' spinner to finishExpected behaviour: Challenge starts.
Observed behaviour: "Network error: Unable to join queue." Also, after this, game reports that I have lost connection to the server.
We tried this both when NATted to the same network and when in two different networks.
- Sending messages in the game chat to same friend works in both directions.
- We are able to play against other players e.g. through the color challenge or regular matches.
- Only the friendly challenge fails.Log attached.

Comment by Necrachilles#97945 worked for me, more or less, thank you. We were trying to play with a (seemingly corrupted) starter deck. Exported it, removed one empty line that was at the bottom of the deck, and added it as a new custom deck that actually allowed us to play me connect. In fact only my deck was corrupted, not my friend's.

still having this issue, it seems to be whoever submits there deck second gets the errors.

Turns out this happens when 1 of the parties uses a premade deck (In this case the white one)

Fix the issues with server connections and friendly play, it's unbearable!
Since the latest patch I'm unable to do friendly play.
I get or send a challenge request, then choose deck and as soon as either me other the other party clicks on submit, it will take a few seconds, then error out with "Unable to submit deck" and disconnect you from the server (after a while a reconnect window appears)I have unfriended/refriended, i have reinstalled the game and nothing works.
Also the direct challenge queue needs an overhaul. It will drop you out of a game if someone got a challenge and accepts it later while you started another game. it will be stuck and force you to restart the whole game because challenge button is not clickable anymore etc.

1. Give us the steps to reproduce the bug: Open MTGA client (PC, Android, iOS) -> Challenge a friend to any game type -> Get error saying "Network Error - Unable to submit deck. Please try again later."
2. Note which platform you’re using (PC, Mac, Android, or iOS): PC, Android, iOS/all three
3. Enter the actual results you’re experiencing: See #1
4. Enter the expected results of the feature: To have the ability to play MTGA with anyone on my friends list.
5. Add any relevant screenshots/videos
6. If you found a workaround, please add workaround steps.: No workaround has been achieved. This is a critical blocker bug that is preventing people from playing the game together.

Related thread which has some suggested fixes you can try:
https://feedback.wizards.com/forums/918667-mtg-arena-bugs-product-suggestions/suggestions/44049276-unable-to-submit-deck-friendly-playIt might be related to my friend not having finished the Color Challenge yet.

Same with me. Can't play with my friend at all. He's a new player, I asked him to learn how to play. Disappointing experience, lost a new player.

My friend and I had the same issue. We spend an ungodly amount of time trying different things. We wanted to play the starter decks against each other. Here is what solved it in the end:
When selecting the decks my friend had the starter decks under "My Decks" as well as "Starter Decks". She had selected them from the "Starter Deck" section, when she instead selected them from "My Decks" instead, the matchmaking was working.Hope this helps someone save some time.
