Algorithm Improvement
I'm sure you're getting a lot of complaints about how one-sided your algorithm is not being impartial and often times screwing over players with land draws that should not be happening in a purely random sample - so my complaint can be added to that pile.
But, an idea for changing the algorithm to improve randomization would be having the program assign a number to each card remaining in a deck and pile shuffling the cards into X amount of piles (let's say 6). It can repeat this process Y amount of times then take the middle of the pile and put those cards on top. A better template would be from the card shuffler for poker sets from stores.

Only gotten worse since this post was made. I uninstalled for 10+ months, come back, and things are WAY worse than before. People need to stop feeding money to these criminals at WotC. Boycott any product made by Hasbro, and be vocal about it. Make WotC brand too toxic for the parent company is the ONLY way to possibly fix these problems, but at this point there is no reprieve. Arena will get worse and worse until it fades into nothing, like every online produce WotC has ever touched.

What is with this matchmaking? Are the only decks left in the historic play queue Life gain, Discard and Burn? Are there really no other combinations of cards found by other players? 185 card decks god drawing against standard 60 cards. How is that mathematically possible? I hate that I still play this game as rigged and biased as it is.

No doubt. Brand new to MTG and MTGA... finished the color challenges... was hoping to play against some real people competitively. And by "competitively", I don't mean winning every hand (again, I'm new). But for crying out loud... the decks I'm put up against... are just... SO STACKED! I get it... they've paid good money to have such decks. But I can't see spending any money until I've learned whether I even like playing MTGA or not. And so far... not. Here I am, with a basic deck, trying to learn and get better. But it's almost impossible when you're facing decks that are so far outside the realm of "basic". Too bad too... I wanted to like this.

I’ve experienced a similar thing. I’ve been playing mtga for a few months now after a decade hiatus from the tabletop format. We’ve all experienced mana flooding/mana shafting; it comes with all card games but this is something unique to the digital format. I will play regularly for a few weeks completing daily challenges and sometimes the daily win challenges without any issues. Then one day I will play 5 or 6 or 7 games in a row and see no land other than what was in my starting hand or nothing but land! I’m playing to turn 10 or so in some of these games and getting a good sample of the deck. It was never this consistent when I played with real cards. Glad I didn’t spend any money on this trip down memory lane, sorry for those of you that did… Deleted the app and not coming back.
Oh, also the tooltip you will see occasionally on load screen that’s says “you can’t loose a rank once you’ve attained it in a given season” or something to that effect is a lie. If you hit one of these streaks prepare to drop a rank.

Remove hand smoothing algorithm because it's not real mtg. It's actually training new players wrongly on how they build their decks and play. The algorithm you had in older games was great and i feel like im not being cheated. This algorium Sucks and caters to new players like wtf were yins thinking and don't tell us we want a more even balance between matches or we wanted new players to enjoy their experience. When i think new players i think what were the other games about for the last 20 years then. The card shuffler in those games felt more realistic. This Sxxx is a disgrace just so you get new players. It's common sense if you have a formula that works stick with it. This aint working because when u have to put 14 lands in a deck to get it to play right that's messed up. Your old games didn't do this. It's makes me sad because mtg is my favorite card game and will always be but dam don't i feel like playing yugioh on the Nintendo switch now because i don't feel like my hand is rigged in that game. See i feel mtg use to be a game where people build decks that played how they wanted and they didn't have to mulligan almost every hand just to get a normal hand that didn't have all land or no lands in it. I rather have the old shuffler back any day of the week and sorry about the rant but just fix it already because this game has lots of potential.

Can't agree more... I just logged 10 mirror matches in a row... using a different deck every 2 games... I am so sick of the match making its crazy. So bored. I made Mythic every season for the last year (except last season with the rotation). But after noticing and getting frustrated over the last couple of weeks, I set this parameter tonight... it happened... so I rage uninstalled the game... and will not be back. So disappointing Wizards.... you've ruined a game I love. I'll now only play in person with mates... the only enjoyable way it seems. Oh, and I also think the shuffler isn't up to scratch at all.. but that's old news. ha.

Hello! I was in a Midnight Hunt traditional draft on game 3 of my match, I was doing well stalling but the current UW draft deck used a form of stalling using like [Devious Cover-Up] and other graveyard-to-Library shufflers to keep myself from drawing my deck too fast (got many faithful mendings). Once my Library got empty from forced draws, I attempted to shuffle cards back into to stay in the game longer using the triggered ability of [Ghostly Castigator]. It would not let me select cards from my graveyard due to the fact that I had no library. The next turn I attempted to keep myself from losing to drawing from an empty deck by using [Devious Cover-Up] on an instant speed [Faithful Mending] before draw step. Same result, was not allowed to shuffle cards in my graveyard to my library. This violates 701.20e which states "If an effect causes a player to shuffle a library containing zero or one cards, abilities that trigger when a library is shuffled will still trigger." I am sad that a really intense games with strong plays was disrupted by the bug and a potential win in a event that only allows 3 matches was possibly taken away.

This is 5 times a day at minimum i know how to build a deck I've been playing this game over 20 years and ive tested the theory.... ive build decks that have 25 plus mana and still can't draw a mana card the WORST PART ABOUT IT IS IT HAPPAENS MORE OFTEN WHEN PLAYING PAID EVENTS.... so i know its you the programmer that purposely rigged the game so how about some f$u@ing product purchasing legitimacy... fact you can be sewed for false advertising and selling a false product and looking at this message board it would not be hard to find both witnesses and funding.... the world does not just bend over and take your not facebook and sooner or later either we the players will own this platform because you refuse to fix it mccoy79665 add the gmail if anyone reading this is interesting ive already called the lawyer

this is very frustrating friend. I was going to make a post with this same subject and I decided to research it before and I realized that they don't respond to any post with this subject. Unfortunately I'm thinking about abandoning the game because it's no longer fun, when I get to the diamond league the flood doesn't allow me to progress and I'm going through a lot of anger.

From 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm I've played on my computer, losing 90% of my matches. I look back at the matches I've lost and think it could have changed if I had only played my cards in the right sequence. Opponents seem to have no problem laying out a steamroller of activated abilities while I struggle to draw another land card. It feels like the game is scripted in a lot of ways, pairings seem to have similar advantages/disadvantages, as every adjustment just leads to another loss.
I don't spend money on the game, I play and earn my packs through the BROKEN reward system.
My disappointment really started after the season ended and they moved half of the cards to Historic. I've been struggling to build a deck since the change over, but I've really enjoyed playing the Red/White Warrior/Equipment deck.
I think it has a lot to do with the time that you play, generally I don't like playing during prime time hours, that's where a lot of the players who've spent money are playing (after a long day of killing puppies I'm sure)

Genuinely why am I getting mana starved even when I follow the 60 card guidelines, have taken to solely using one color bc I thought the problem was multicolored decks, especially in Brawl? Wtaf? Y’all suck at programming.

Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to report a bug concerning Magic Arena Online game matchup stage. I understand that player turn priority is determined randomly, but in the scores if not hundreds of standard games I have played it is the opponent that always goes first. I understand the idea of large numbers theory and the concept of variance but I can assure you with utmost certainty that in all attempts it is ALWAYS the opponent that goes first. Please assist me in solving this problem. I attach for your convenience the log capture. Thank you in advance, Gilead B. -

For newer players with decks that use a minimal amount of mythics to be paired with players with egregious amount of mythics is a massive turn-off for the play queue. If I'm not mistaken that queue is supposed to be about casual fun so a matchmaking system that creates such imbalanced pairings really defeat the purpose.
I have many 1st tier decks but sometimes I want to create something janky to experiment with. To be paired with players who approach every queue as if it's a competitive ladder is a massive disservice to paying non-competitive players.

It's not just there, if you.play any kind of tourney you will either go against a deck perfectly made to counter your deck, you will either get mana flooded or no lands at all, and your not even playing other players your playing against a bot with access to every card in the game and it just "pulls" whatever it needs to beat you everytime. It's a joke, I have a turn 2 deck, real life, 84% win rate, in tournaments, 0% win rate after playing 25 times in a row, that's a ****** rigged price of **** and I'm getting my lawyer to draw a class action lawsuit for false claims of PVP fairness in these paid tournaments. You can't tell your customers to pay for access to a pop tourney then put them up against a rigged bot that can't loose. It's literally fraud.

9/28 UPDATE: Seriously, this is ridiculous - routinely getting zero mana after the initial hand for 4+ turns when opponent has gotten all the mana they could ask for… with a 33% ratio, statistically 1 in 3 draws should be mana. FIX THIS.
———————
WHY are initial hands routinely short on mana (2 mana or less about 75% of the time - usually requiring at least 2 mulligans to get a reasonable starting mix)??AND WHY, again nearly 75% of the time, do games progress with either little to no mana drawn after turn 1 OR conversely little to no creatures - such that you end up with just mana draws or just non-mana draws in game??
This is with decks that are generally constructed to be 66%/33% - non-mana/mana ratio…
Routinely getting these sorts of draws repeatedly doesn’t make any sense - and it’s also not very fun when it seems to be happening game after game.
You should consider reevaluating your shuffle and draw algorithms, as they don’t seem entirely random nor at least logical.

The title says it all. Your ideas of match pairings suck. Let people "rung what ya brung". I'm so sick of being paired up against the same deck over and over and over again. Let me enjoy the digital cards I paid for without the nanny'ing of your matchmaking system. FFS.
