I am wirting to you regarding a quite interesting "mechanic-issue".
The case was the following, with 3 respectable cards:
Enemy:
1x Alseid of Life's Bounty
1x Luminous Broodmoth
(+ 2 other creature; lifelink nothing else)
Me: Draconic Intervention cast (for a 3-cost-instant exile + double cast - for 6dmg)
Enemy sacrificed Alseid' for a "protection from red" on the broodmoth - and while the board got wiped, the luminous broodmoth remained - without a dent.
As far as my knowledge goes, an "each creature dmg" of 6 should have obliterated the broodmoth - even with a protection, as it wasn't targeted. Yet - it remained.
Strange, as it was neither targeted, nor it is a dragon....
Pls' revise this case, as I use the card [Draconic Intervention] from time to time, and I do not wish to meet again, with such inconvenient cases. It was extremely annoying.
Sadly I cannot give you screenshot, but I am quite sure if you test this scenario, this will pop up too....
Thanks and waiting on your answer!
Joseph

As well as preventing targeting, Protection also reduces any damage caused (by an appropriate source) to zero.
"702.16e Any damage that would be dealt by sources that have the stated quality to a permanent or player with protection is prevented."
