Make draft more accesible
New Player Experience is rather meh in MTG Arena. Doesn't facilitate new player growth and player retention.
Reasons:
1. As a new player I'm learning cards and trying to acquire cards to play with. The best way to do so is by playing draft, which leads me to my next point.
2. Draft is expensive. It takes at least a week of grinding gold through tasks to be able to play draft, or the option of spending USD for gems to play, which is a terrible game design for new players. Why would a new player want to spend USD to play the format that gets them exposure and rewards from a new set? Why is this a bad experience for new players? Inexperienced players will draft and lose (your ranking system is very flawed), which means experienced players will perpetually get gems/gold from draft, giving them the ability to continue to draft from draft rewards. New players, however, will almost always lose 3 games without getting ample rewards to draft again, even with an occasional win. As a new player if you can't win draft and acquire rewards you end up stuck in a loop of either grinding for a week to be able to play draft or spending money (most won't opt for this option if they continue to lose draft). If you can't acquire new cards from the new set via draft, which is the best way to get rewards, you are perpetually stuck trying to build decks from old sets and play constructed to grind gold and completing tasks for rewards. This gets boring and players will ultimately choose another game to play where they don't have to spend USD to play a format to acquire cards to build decks with, at the very least keeping them playing. Lots of anti-patterns going on here.
3. Drafting is a ton of fun, however, only caters to individuals skilled in draft. If a new player drafts and loses 3 games time and time again, there is really no fun in drafting because you never get to play draft due to the high amount of gems/gold you have to accumulate to do so. This is an Anti-pattern where only good players with experience continue to play draft because they win over and over, where lower experience players are milled through their games quickly getting next to no rewards to be able to play draft again.
It doesn't make any sense why a new player would spend USD time and time again to play draft to acquire rewards and lose time and time again? The cost/reward ration here is way off, especially adding in the above mentioned items pertaining to new inexperienced players.
In closing essentially you may make a buck off of those interested in the game, but eventually they will stop paying money and stop playing the game because they can't draft to acquire new cards to build decks with because of the extremely low cost/reward ratio.
