"Rage Of The Elements" Set Concept
Rage Of The Elements
Basically the elemental forces of the various planes have decided that mortals, gods, angels, demons and many others have upset the "planar balance" and it is time to restore that balance.
This is bad for many living things, and especially anything that has a soul!
This set will be all about elementals for all 5 colors, plus mixed colors, as well as some colorless elementals.
Plus being able to bring back some old elementals, genies, efreets, drakes, wierds and so on.
I recommend introducing a "chosen creature type" system for cards that help creature types.
Words are like prime real estate on a card, so being able to get the rules across sooner this can help.. a lot!
For example:
Creepy crawlies - Enchanment 2 Black&/or2 Green (either mana, easy)
Chosen creature types: rat, vermin, insect, scorpion, spider, horror, nightmare, troll, hag, witch, etc.
All of the chosen creature types you control gain: Reach and trample.
Then you'll see a lot of chosen creature type cards listing:
Chosen creature type(s): elemental, wierd, djinn, efreet, genie, hellion
and so on.
Probably some crossover, or even old dragons and drakes coming back as well as some elemental animals and such.
But the idea behind this is elemental forces are not invading, but striking back at most "mortal" establishments. So good or evil are screwed and you end up with wierd situations where and demons get attacked in the middle of their battles and so on. Pretty crazy writing ideas.
Now why are the elementals so ****** off?
Is it all these wars, too many changes, too many armies running back and forth across planes. The planar invasion itself?
This is where I leave it open ended..
based on the history of magic why would this happen?
What set them off?
If it's successful and doing well, bring out expansions to the rage of the elements.
One other card description which would be cool:
Weather
Just so all those cold/hot/muddy ground/lightning bolt/etc cards can count as a "weather" card as well. For example a storm druid could let you play weather cards from the top of your deck.. well that would include snow and desert lands and cards too!
Easier to pull off on the computer games, but the ruling if worded well should be off the cards. Tons of lands, instant, enchantment and sorcy gain weather.. maybe some creatures.. elementals for sure!
Which can be a benefit and a drawback, druids and shamans can control and redirect weather so you might have some druids/elementals/wizards that have protection from weather. Awesome!
