Solphim, Mayhem Dominus does double damage to owner when activating ability to make indestructible.
When activating ability and paying with life instead of mana, double the stated life is taken from the player. The card states double damage is only done to opponent, not owner. This only seems to trigger half the times the ability is activated

If paying phyrexian life is not damage then why do you pay 4 life when it says you only pay 2 life?

Paying phyrexian mana with life is not damage. Activating the ability with life costs you 4 life. If you do it on your opponent's turn while he has a Bloodletter of Aclazotz out, your life loss is doubled, thus losing 8.
