Expend
During a draft I played a couple creatures with the expend mechanic. Both were expend 4. However, even though I spent 4 mana and their icon lit up gold, the effect did not trigger. In the last case I tried to use it, it did not deal the 2 damage.

Did you expend 4 prior to or as you were casting them? Or were they already out? Because like the cards with "when you cast your second spell each turn..." they need to already be on the battlefield to trigger.
