New way to play MtG (100% compatible with every other format)
Magic was the original TTC. Others have tried to make something as popular, with varying success.
One aspect of Magic no other TTC has borrowed is the way land and mana works. Pokemons way is similar but still very different. The reason for this is that it's flawed. (Also copyright?)
The mechanic of drawing land and needing a certain amount to do anything in game is not always a fun way to play because luck determines if you get the land you need to use your deck to its full potential.
What I suggest is to make a new game mode that change that. Without having to go back and change card text.
During this game mode players simply have two libraries.
One with every card in their deck that is classed as a land. Including double-land, oases and such. If the card says "land" on it, it goes in this pile.
The other library has all other card types in it. If it does not say land on it, it goes in this library.
Now whenever you draw a card, you choose which library you draw from. If you want land you draw from that library. If you want something different you draw from the other.
If a card effect have you draw, mill or otherwise manipulate your library - it is the caster of the effect that choose which library you draw from.'
Naturally you need to empty both libraries in order to trigger a defeat, as per the rules.
Simple, right?
