While playing Brawl, my opponent's commander was "Ezuri, Claw of Progress", mine was "Thassa, Deep-Dwelling".
I took control of my opponents Ezuri using "Mind Flayer", then targeted the Ezuri with Thassa's end step trigger to blink it (so I still control it if Mind Flayer dies).

After doing this, with the Ezuri now under my control I would expect to get experience counters. The ability does go on the stack when a 2-or-less-power creature enters, but I wasn't gaining any counters.
