Toxic Deluge will not work if I have Karn's Sylex on the field. It has happened on numerous occasions.
Toxic Deluge will not work if I have Karn's Sylex on the field. It has happened on numerous occasions. I get the following message "Action cannot be completed due to an unpayable cost." On each occasion I have had plenty of life to use the card.

Have you bothered to actually READ Karn's Sylex? You should, because there is this not unimportant clause on it:
"Players can't pay life to cast spells or to activate abilities that aren't mana abilities."
And casting Toxic Deluge for X>0 requires you to pay life. Which you cannot do with the Sylex on the field.
