Crewing vehicles at instant speed in Omenpaths
So, vehicles should crew at instant speed. If I a have a Vinewoven Chariot in play and play a Principled Referee, I would like to crew the Chariot with the ETB from the Referee on the stack. That way I could put a counter on the Chariot. That does not work, not in full control even. A very similar interaction would be with Diligent Webkeepers instead of the Referee. That, surprisingly, does work as it should. Thanks!

You have to choose targets BEFORE you can even start crewing with the creature. Because after the creature spell has finished resolving, state based actions are checked, then triggers are put on the stack. It is here that you have to choose targets for it. You get priority AFTER you have finished putting the trigger on the stack, but not before. Meaning, you do not have priority to crew your vehicle yet.What you want to do does not work within the rules.
The difference with Diligent Webkeeper is, that that trigger does not require targets. Anything that is a creature at the time the trigger resolves gets a +1/+1 counter. You do get priority before that happens and can use it to crew the vehicle.
