I clicked mutate and it killed it instead. Utter bug in the game.

Not a bug, just an unfortunate side effect of mutating onto Katilda and putting the NON-SPIRIT Snapdax on top of the mutate pile. Katilda says
"Katilda, Dawnhart Martyr's power and toughness are each equal to the number of permanents you control that are Spirits and/or enchantments."
With no Spirits or enchantments left under your control, the mutated creature is a 0/0 and dies.
