Smothering Tithe stops Cultivator Colossus landfall effect
In (Historic) Brawl.
The First Sliver commander, in a deck with Tibalt's Trickery, Cultivator Colossus and 97 lands (Gates / Maze's End wincon).
Opponent has Smothering Tithe on the board.
Play The First Sliver, it cascades into Tibalt's Trickery, counter the Sliver, then find Cultivator Colossus.
Colossus hits the board and his ETB effect triggers: you may play a land from your hand, if you do, draw a card and repeat this process. Play a land, draw a card. Smothering Tithe triggers, asking if you wish to decline or pay 2. Pay 2 option is grayed out, only option is decline. What should happen is a treasure token is created for the opponent, then you continue the Colossus "play a land/draw a card" effect (decline to pay 2, create treasure token) repeating over and over.
Instead, you decline to pay for Smothering Tithe, it creates a treasure token and passes the turn to your opponent, ending the Colossus ETB trigger.
Naw. Just naw.

The game did not ask you if you wanted to pay for Smothering Tithe. It sked you if you wanted to repeat the process. The trigger for the Tithe has not even been put on the stack yet, because it has to wait for the Colossus's trigger to fully resolve first. Which is after you've gone through all the iterations of the process you want to go through. You declined to repeat the process.
