MTG Arena crashing on Mac
First time playing on a Mac, the client crashes after every match I complete, then crashes on the next restart.

MTG Arena crashes constantly on my Macbook as well (Catalina OS). This has been an issue ever since I installed it, but could sometimes get around it by repeatedly restarting and clicking different things until one didn't crash. After that, the game would usually run properly for a while (although usually it would still eventually crash when starting a game). However it's gotten even worse now - now no matter what I click on, the game immediately crashes. I've repeatedly uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail.

MTG Arena is crashing rather consistently on my Macbook. I don't really care if it's the Epic Games Launcher or the MTG Arena client, this is pretty embarrassing.
It's not a cheap game. I spend between $100-200 every set. I hope some big fixes are coming, and I'm really skeptical of an iPad release at this point.

+1. I don't understand how an application this unusable was released. It doesn't take much testing to experience the incredibly repetitive instability that the game exhibits. I want to enjoy the game I love, but I'm ready to give up. I certainly am not going to be putting any money into the game when I can't reliably play 1-2 games in succession.

I'm a Unity developer, and I cannot even imagine putting out a game that is this unstable. Updates every week, but the crashes continue. What kind of junior developers do you have on this team?

 This is still open and the only comment from Wizards is "It sounds like you may need some more troubleshooting advice, please submit at...". Jesus Christ. Sure, go ahead and do that. They'll tell you it's an issue with Epic Games. That's exactly what I did a few weeks ago and guess what?! They told me to it's not their fault and I should talk to Epic Games. What's even more interesting is that if you Google "MTGA crash" the very first bug that'll show up is https://feedback.wizards.com/forums/918667-mtg-arena-bugs/suggestions/40827319-game-crashing. I'm pretty sure it started off as something else (because it dates back to 2019 when there were no official Mac OS releases) but the only thing I see now is hundreds of people complaining about the same problem reported here *with Mac OS*. Last time I checked they had less than 2,800 votes and it's gone up to 3,000 votes now in a matter of weeks!! For how long are they going to keep ignoring us?!?!
P.S. If you want to laugh a bit, guess what was the response from Wizards in that bug report from with over 3,000 votes now (page 83)...... Yes, you guessed correctly "It sounds like you may need some more troubleshooting advice, please submit at..." LOL

Same here. It crashes every time I hit the play button. Then after about 3 to 6 or even more crashes it works.

I encountered about 6 crashes in a row with the following sequence:
- Start Arena (after a crash)
- Click Play
- Click PlayI'll attach a few of the logs, including the last one, where Arena didn't crash, but instead started up at the beginning of a game.
I wasn't able to include the log from when Arena didn't crash - it was about 12 MB. Here are logs from the 6 crashes:

This has been a fairly consistent issue for me. Prior to the patch today, if I clicked on "Decks" first after Arena loads, I would then be able to navigate to any other game mode / menu without any issue, but today it has just consistently been crashing anytime I try to navigate off of the home page when Arena loads.

I am also experiencing constant crashes on a 16in 2019 MacBook Pro.
Edit: I've tried to attach a log file using several browsers and no dice. Not really sure how to proceed.

This has nothing to do with the Epic launcher - as it mentioned bellow as a reply to x00x#17639. Even if you open the MTGA file directly from its directory, the same keeps happening.

I wonder if they even test it at all.

I am using a MAC.
I open MTG Arena. Once it loads the starting screen, I then try to select any of the options or menu item. MTG Arena immediately crashes following my click. -

The Mac client crashes all the time for me too. When I click on "play, decks, or store," it often crashes. It also crashes at the end of matches. Sometimes it crashes on launch.

I managed to get some logs for a repeated crash and a final not-crash. In each case, this is what I did:
- Start Arena
- Click "Decks"
- In the attempt logged at 14.49.33, Arena didn't crash. In all others, it did. -

I've been getting Arena to crash consistently several times in a row. Here's what I did:
- Start Arena
- Click Play
- Click PlayI'll attach some of the most recent logs where this happened.

capmikee#92797 commented
I was unable to attach the log file - it was 31M.

I just had Arena crash as the match was finishing. I'll attach a crash report. I'm not sure if I'll be able to attach the Arena log, I'll try that in a separate comment.

This is happening to me as well. It's very annoying. It happens pretty much all the time I launch MTGA and try to see my decks or start a match. It takes a few cycles of starting the app > do something > crash > start over until it finally stops happening for a while. I've tried contacting Wizards and not only they did not have a solution but told me it's likely to be a problem with the launcher from Epic Games i.e. not my problem, go to Epic Games. That's really bad because even if it is something with the platform used by Epic Games, it is still your game, right? I mean, it's in your best interest to make sure it works and not be like 'yeah, it happens, not our fault, go talk to somebody else'. Quite disappointing. I've sent multiple log files and they seem to have done nothing. I'm gonna have to try and talk to Epic Games since Wizards doesn't seem to be very interested in looking at this issue.

I am having the same problem. malloc: *** error for object 0x1878c0020: pointer being freed was not allocated. Most of the time when I hit play to start a match.

The application keeps crashing over and over again. Now started crashing while starting matches.
