continual freezes during gameplay
My arena client continually freezes during gameplay and eventually crashes out with windows error.
It seems to most commonly happen when a special effect is being played for a card that has one, so the ability to turn those off might be a useful start. At the moment it's unplayable.

I have had the same experience as SirLancelot with regards to upgrading iMacs.
I previously had a 2017 iMac running Catalina that was running Magic Arena fine. I recently upgraded to a 2020 iMac running Big Sur, and I frequently get crashes that locks up the entire computer forcing a complete reboot.
2020 iMac running Big Sur with MTGA crashes:

Like the people in this threat I also experience the same issues. Graphical glitches random mid game witch cause my system to crash. BUT there is a difference.
Ive been playing MTGA for a few years now. Ive encountered these problems only with my new iMac 27" 2020 model and no issues with my previous iMac late 2013 27" model ( with I sold).
The second part is that I started playing on my new machine with MacOs Catalana. This resulted in that some graphical glitches but not in a way that it would break the game. You see the glitches almost break up and then the game goes on and its still fine and playable.
I updates to macOS Big Sur and the same problem appears BUT the whole system seems to crash with all the glitches like some ppl are describing below. Graphical crashes random @ ingame battle.. So I've take another step.
I installed parallels for a VM Windows 10. I played the game and the same random particle glitches happend followed with a crash of the system.
Afterwards I tried bootcamp with native windows 10. < quess what; No problems.
So with all this in mind This tells me that this game is not optimized to run on newer Apple devices with AMD GPU specifications and MacOS BigSur < AMD with windows and the appropriate drivers has no problems on the same system. Because my first setup ( late 2013 model iMac) was a Geforce NVIDIA setup with no problems whatsoever.
So if there are more ppl with the same problems, Please do something and give us some reaction that these problems are looked at.
If not maybe some ppl with influence should post this on social media that a game cannot even run on a 3000 dollar system?

Same issue. PC crashes during matches: black screen, sound stops, keyboard doesn't work...
Operating system is fully updated and drivers too.
This is problem is REALLY SPECIFIC in MTGA, because I use to play around 4 or 5 games and I've never faced this problem with them.
WoTC, please improve and optimize the game... Please check everything about Unity and the game code.
We need a simple and functional game! -

I have a MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019) with 64 GB RAM and the top of the line graphics. Freezes for me quite often. Sometimes I have to reboot.

I had the same issue and found that running dual screen/extended display while playing the game was the problem -_-

Same for me, started happening today (27th of December 2020). Game only lasts a few minutes/seconds before a freeze occurs. When this happens, GPU Usage is unusually high and spikes to 100%, eventually resulting in a freeze. Newest NVidia Driver (also Updated today.. maybe thats the issue?!), RTX 2080Ti.
Edit: yes, that seems to have done the trick. Although GPU Usage is really high (50% even when just the Home menu of MTGA is shown) it no longer freezes after rolling back to NVidia Driver version: 432.00.
I suspect a combination of a bug in the MTGA code and something in the newer NVidia GPU driver.
Another Update: the freezes have come back, it seems to happen more often the longer the app runs. Not as frequently as with the newer driver, but still unplayable.

On MAC this issue is worse like 100x... it freezes the game, then PC and video just stops, sounds continues but PC doesn't respond. you need to force shutdown. It happens like in 1 out of 2 games, impossible to play as is. It didn't happen a few months ago, it was fine...

On MAC Big Sur this one is a big problem. The PC literally freezes and I have to force shutdown.. i actually hilarious that no so long ago it was BETA and it was working okay and now its issues after issues when suposelly it's "released" lol... If this is mobile stuff, stop please.

I have the winning trigger on the stack and the stack will not resolve. I have chosen the target for the trigger but the game does not advance.

Yes the game has become utterly unplayable. I can not even get through a draft match anymore with graphics on low. It's either your recent update or the fact I'm running Big Sur on mac now, no other variables have changed. Please refund my recent large gem purchase! It used to be a really bad piece of software that I tolerated for love of my favorite game, now it is utterly unplayable. Don't tell me to contact support, I have done that, they were useless.

I've spent $80 dollars on a game that crashes every 5 minutes. This is fraud. MTG should be sued out of existence for robbing thousands and thousands of people with a useless game that they know is unplayable.
Thieving ********.
