I'm sure you're getting a lot of complaints about how one-sided your algorithm is not being impartial and often times screwing over players with land draws that should not be happening in a purely random sample - so my complaint can be added to that pile.
But, an idea for changing the algorithm to improve randomization would be having the program assign a number to each card remaining in a deck and pile shuffling the cards into X amount of piles (let's say 6). It can repeat this process Y amount of times then take the middle of the pile and put those cards on top. A better template would be from the card shuffler for poker sets from stores.
back again about how this BS game is rigged with "opponent goes first". i kept track of my games for the past three months. the "differential" right now between going first or second is over 200 times. meaning , i've gone second more than 200 times than i've gone first. that means someone out there has the same "differential" in the opposite direction: going first 400 times more than going second. i can't say exactly how much an average win percentage will be when you go first, but i'd bet it is at least a 10% bump. this game is rigged by who goes first: spend money = go first more often. what else is rigged?
best of one You will be on the draw far more often depending on what your deck has in it. if it's a Simic deck with lots of fast creatures, chances are you're going second.
The issue is the same for historic, I'm at the point of having enough frustration that will make me quit the game. Whenever I build a fairly decent jank, the first match is ALWAYS the exact counter for whatever I built, this is ********.
I'm either playing against bots named after offline users or they're really lucky and believe the heart of the cards as if it was yugioh with perfect draws. What the ****?
Fix the Shuffler already.
This game is so rigged its pathetic. In 20+ years of playing MTG i have never experienced so many issues involving mana screws. I have never made it 10+ draws in with zero lands in a deck thats 50% lands. Now its a multiple times an hour thing.
WoTC should really find a way to block arena tracker. its really bringing to lite how often i go second (78% on the draw). Thats fair. Also, just look at the decks you play. The meta is supposedly all midragne aggro, yet if you play control you never see those decks. Switch to an aggro deck and all of a sudden there those decks are every game.
Stop rigging starting hands. Stop fixing games with mana ***** mechanics. Fix the non existent economy. Fix the rigged matchmaker. Literally do anything to make the game better.
right now the game and community are so bad its laughable. There is zero skill involved in this Arena. Games are won based on luck, money spent, and shuffler rigging. The amount of times you will have 4/4 of multiple cards 5 draws into the game is insane. The amount of times you will be mana starved with over half a deck of lands is insane. The fact entire decks are deleted from your play rotation based on what you play is flat out gross.
This game is nothing more than a sad cash grab. WoTC themselves admitted nothing is random. Not to rig the game, but because "truly random events do not seem random" whatever that BS means. The game is rigged. 20+ years of paper play makes it blatant. The huge amount of statistical anomalies that are experienced by huge amounts of the player base should be enough. The million game studies that have been done proved the game is rigged, theres card clumping, and mana ***** is way to common.
The UI is beautiful, but the game is far from MTG. it uses the same cards, but feels scripted. wins and losses feel predetermined. The game is less exciting and more disappointing. AVOID THIS TRASH AT ALL COSTS
This game is unbearable. Stop "smoothing" my hands. stop rigging the match maker. This game is absolute trash,
I play draft which cost 1500 gems to sign up for.
Against my better judgment I spent 20 $ again.
Everytime it's the same, but my last draft beats it all.
Every few games it's either no lands of the right color, or mana flow, 1 land after the other. Tell me what is the point of playing a game if in more than half of the games the winner is already pre determent by a broken mechanism. It's like playing slot machines except there's nothing to win here. Anyway, that last draft I had to start second EVERY SINGLE TIME. 5 games in a row I go last, costing me ATLEAST 1 or 2 of my losses. Mana ***** cost me the third. WHY would I spend more money for something that only works on the surface. It's downright disheartening. IF I had a chance to trade my 4-5 year old account back for that last 20$ I would immediately.
I just lost 15 matches in a row at the EXACT same turn count my opponent being under 5 lp and its the perfect answer/removal. Then guess what i draw for 5 turns lands lands lands such a terrible broken system but wotc doesnt give a dam about its player base. They will rig their shufflers games matches anything for money on here. Terrible app broken and nothing will be fixed. But heres whats funny they will life ban players for "cheating" but they do it and nothing is done go figure
The game is designed with stats so that a player on a roll starts drawing only lands in draft or yet, doesn't draw any lands by putting 17 in the starting deck. Please return me the gems i've buy in this game. I demand a refund.

I have 0% win-rate against opponents on a superior Tier than I am, with MB in Standard for many the best deck in standard.

Class action lawsuit time. If you can't see this game is rigging wins and losses for profit, you are a ******. Having a bad run of games? Log out of your account, quit the game, wait thirty minutes, log back in and the "you win/lose" manipulation mechanics reset. If you play more than 10 games in a row in any given session it will force you to get wins or losses by matchmaking.
The shuffler is beyond broken, whether that is intentional or not, who knows. I chalk that up to incompetent coding since WotC does not pay their software engineers a fair salary. Combine gross incompetence (shuffler grouping cards ) with match fixing (who you match up with is CLEARLY done to manipulate your chances at winning) and you have blatant criminal behavior.
Opponent goes first in ranked 205/300 games I tracked while nearly always having balanced land and a balanced hand while I am land screwed or flooded in half the games. This just ruins this game terribly, thank god I play with the real cards and can put this complete bs site in it's place in my head. The weirdest part is the sudden small streaks where I suddenly have perfect hands and land and win 17/20, games and then it reverts back. This site needs douched. Sleeved table shuffle cards do not unbalance anywhere near this extent and the opponent goes first thing is not even really possible. (the opponent goes first thing has let up in the last 1-2 months) The deck rigging with the opponent always having perfect land and a perfect hand that counters any card I may play has increased.
Here is an idea! Fix the F****** shuffle system you guys use for decks. There are so many games where people are either land flooded or starved. Some folk mulligan cause of this and then just straight up concede the match, cause the shuffle system is up to S***. Do the maths for a proper shuffle system...please...

This is the best form of cope I've ever seen. Stuff happens. Bad beats happen at every level, at every table, in paper, online, in Commander, in Limited, everywhere. It's not Arena's fault that probability exists.
Also, stop playing BO1.
Ever notice that whenever you're about to level from Gold to Platinum or Platinum to Diamond that the difficulty goes up massively? It's not really "difficulty", it's just the matchmaker making it very unlikely for you to win and then the shuffler dooming you. I've ran an experiment on this - if I buy something, I get the last two pips to move up a level about 60% of the time back to back. When I don't, it's literally lose two games, get one win back, but you'll never move up to the next level without switching decks. I've also found that I get free wins if I just rebuild the deck and name it something else - Arena seems to be primed to hand out free wins like that.
I also doubt that there's this many real people playing online at any given time. I assume that Wizards has bots ready to go with exact countermeasures whenever you start winning.
TL;DR - if casinos did what Wizards is doing, they'd be hit with confiscatory fines and might even face jail time. Seems how it's a "children's card game", they can steal money from people without any oversight whatsoever.
when are you going to stop making things extremely difficult for deck brewers and stop catering to mono colored decks? Your hand smoothing disaster makes things very difficult for brewers because more often the not you get mana screwed or flooded and it happens back to back way too often for accurate information when brewing a deck and as for mono colored decks either situation gives them a huge advantage over multicolored decks . Had smoothing was supposed to make the game better but it has degenerated the game to the point where you are losing loyal customers. the play group I used to play with has all left and the guys who left have been buying boxes of cards every month since early in the beta set, now I am the only one left and you guys are out about 3000 dollars a month, Alienating the players that have been with you since the early stages of the game is not going to help you keep your business. Nabbing new players is cool but not at the expense of passionate players that have proven to be loyal. Most new players are not going to stick it out for years.
It's not an idea, it's a problem with the "flip a coin, who goes first". I have been tracking my deck tonight and I have played 40 games with a tracker. With a 26% on the play percentage. I learned that my tracker only calculates the games I start. I had given up before starting a game before accepting my hand which counts as going first so my "on the play" is actually lower than 26%.
Seriously, stop favoring net decks and adhere to the coin flip. Technically the rate at which I get to go first is literally impossible. I have a better chance at winning the powerball lottery three times over than getting the odds of going first in MTGA. I uploaded my games played/lost and the percentage at which I went first. Yes, I lost a lot of games but to be fair, after the first 20 games of going second other than a few games, I conceded. From here on out, in regular play (not ranked) I will give up every other game that I don't go first. One game, I go second, the next I go first. If I go second two times in a row, I concede. I will continue to concede for 4-6 more games until I go first. If I go first two times in a row, I will go second two times in a row. All we want is a true 50/50 system in which we play/draw.
At this point, I serious think that you have my account tagged to go second most of the time for complaints in the forums about bugs (specifically audio bugs that your programmers can't fix) to be fair, the audio has been better lately. But still chill out with your ****** "play first" algorithm.
I've played 5 draft of Dominaria and I've never hit 3 wins. I lose at least 2 games a draft because the game refuses to give me land curve. If its multi-land, I always only get 1 type. I tried to mono land in desperation and then it never gives more than 1. Mulligans don't help. Maybe I'm just unlucky as my opponents never seem to have a problem, but I can't take it anymore. I've never had a set kick me in the nuts so routinely on RNG. I've played Magic for a long time, but I can't do this any more. I can't suffer through 7-10 days of standard just to get another 0-3 run where I get nothing at all.
This game blows. One of the worst excuses for a fair card game ever. as a 20+ year player of MTG I can 100% say this game is broken if not completely rigged. The economy sucks, the community sucks, the matchmaker and shuffler suck. And that's literally every aspect of the game other than the beautiful UI. Hasbro/Wizards has finally found a way to ruin the game of magic. I think its safe to say this is nothing more than a cash grab full of rigging and fake loss streaks to encourage in game purchases.
MTG has always been somewhat pay to win because you can buy cards, but this is on a whole new level of BS. you pay to own nothing. You cant trade. Losses feel so forced that you almost feel bad winning half the time. about 1 out of every 10-20 games feels legit and like a good fun game of magic. the rest of the time someone is just getting mana screwed. Games bad, companies bad, these guys are in the same realm as Blizzard and their products should flat out be avoided.
