Algorithm Improvement
I'm sure you're getting a lot of complaints about how one-sided your algorithm is not being impartial and often times screwing over players with land draws that should not be happening in a purely random sample - so my complaint can be added to that pile.
But, an idea for changing the algorithm to improve randomization would be having the program assign a number to each card remaining in a deck and pile shuffling the cards into X amount of piles (let's say 6). It can repeat this process Y amount of times then take the middle of the pile and put those cards on top. A better template would be from the card shuffler for poker sets from stores.

Here is an idea! Fix the F****** shuffle system you guys use for decks. There are so many games where people are either land flooded or starved. Some folk mulligan cause of this and then just straight up concede the match, cause the shuffle system is up to S***. Do the maths for a proper shuffle system...please...

This is the best form of cope I've ever seen. Stuff happens. Bad beats happen at every level, at every table, in paper, online, in Commander, in Limited, everywhere. It's not Arena's fault that probability exists.
Also, stop playing BO1. -

Ever notice that whenever you're about to level from Gold to Platinum or Platinum to Diamond that the difficulty goes up massively? It's not really "difficulty", it's just the matchmaker making it very unlikely for you to win and then the shuffler dooming you. I've ran an experiment on this - if I buy something, I get the last two pips to move up a level about 60% of the time back to back. When I don't, it's literally lose two games, get one win back, but you'll never move up to the next level without switching decks. I've also found that I get free wins if I just rebuild the deck and name it something else - Arena seems to be primed to hand out free wins like that.
I also doubt that there's this many real people playing online at any given time. I assume that Wizards has bots ready to go with exact countermeasures whenever you start winning.
TL;DR - if casinos did what Wizards is doing, they'd be hit with confiscatory fines and might even face jail time. Seems how it's a "children's card game", they can steal money from people without any oversight whatsoever.

when are you going to stop making things extremely difficult for deck brewers and stop catering to mono colored decks? Your hand smoothing disaster makes things very difficult for brewers because more often the not you get mana screwed or flooded and it happens back to back way too often for accurate information when brewing a deck and as for mono colored decks either situation gives them a huge advantage over multicolored decks . Had smoothing was supposed to make the game better but it has degenerated the game to the point where you are losing loyal customers. the play group I used to play with has all left and the guys who left have been buying boxes of cards every month since early in the beta set, now I am the only one left and you guys are out about 3000 dollars a month, Alienating the players that have been with you since the early stages of the game is not going to help you keep your business. Nabbing new players is cool but not at the expense of passionate players that have proven to be loyal. Most new players are not going to stick it out for years.

It's not an idea, it's a problem with the "flip a coin, who goes first". I have been tracking my deck tonight and I have played 40 games with a tracker. With a 26% on the play percentage. I learned that my tracker only calculates the games I start. I had given up before starting a game before accepting my hand which counts as going first so my "on the play" is actually lower than 26%.
Seriously, stop favoring net decks and adhere to the coin flip. Technically the rate at which I get to go first is literally impossible. I have a better chance at winning the powerball lottery three times over than getting the odds of going first in MTGA. I uploaded my games played/lost and the percentage at which I went first. Yes, I lost a lot of games but to be fair, after the first 20 games of going second other than a few games, I conceded. From here on out, in regular play (not ranked) I will give up every other game that I don't go first. One game, I go second, the next I go first. If I go second two times in a row, I concede. I will continue to concede for 4-6 more games until I go first. If I go first two times in a row, I will go second two times in a row. All we want is a true 50/50 system in which we play/draw.
At this point, I serious think that you have my account tagged to go second most of the time for complaints in the forums about bugs (specifically audio bugs that your programmers can't fix) to be fair, the audio has been better lately. But still chill out with your ****** "play first" algorithm.

I've played 5 draft of Dominaria and I've never hit 3 wins. I lose at least 2 games a draft because the game refuses to give me land curve. If its multi-land, I always only get 1 type. I tried to mono land in desperation and then it never gives more than 1. Mulligans don't help. Maybe I'm just unlucky as my opponents never seem to have a problem, but I can't take it anymore. I've never had a set kick me in the nuts so routinely on RNG. I've played Magic for a long time, but I can't do this any more. I can't suffer through 7-10 days of standard just to get another 0-3 run where I get nothing at all.

This game blows. One of the worst excuses for a fair card game ever. as a 20+ year player of MTG I can 100% say this game is broken if not completely rigged. The economy sucks, the community sucks, the matchmaker and shuffler suck. And that's literally every aspect of the game other than the beautiful UI. Hasbro/Wizards has finally found a way to ruin the game of magic. I think its safe to say this is nothing more than a cash grab full of rigging and fake loss streaks to encourage in game purchases.
MTG has always been somewhat pay to win because you can buy cards, but this is on a whole new level of BS. you pay to own nothing. You cant trade. Losses feel so forced that you almost feel bad winning half the time. about 1 out of every 10-20 games feels legit and like a good fun game of magic. the rest of the time someone is just getting mana screwed. Games bad, companies bad, these guys are in the same realm as Blizzard and their products should flat out be avoided.

I am SEEING SAME issue!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am raging quitting now! Spent ALOT TIME and MONEY to rank for nothing.... 2 games in a row, I draw NOTHING BUT LANDS!

Then they can't favor the game for the people who spent money. They have to win so they can enjoy and spend more. Digital rigging at its finest. So don't expect any fairness.

I have drafted many a lot through Arena and it seems just recently have been seeing a rash of opening hands with 3+ of the same basic land. Then kept drawing lands of the same color... I understand this could be random luck but I have pretty much ended up poorly in 2x drafts because of this. Has the hand smoothing algorithm been updated?

Lady Lilith#11462 commented
I've noticed this, too. I agree that we need to take a stand and not buy into Arena anymore until they let us choose our decks in Ranked queues AFTER being matched. Simple fix which will no longer defeat the purpose of wanting to play a more organic-feeling game of MtG. I am specifying "ranked" queues because that's where deck-based matchmaking really has no valid place whatsoever.

Your shuffler is everyday worst ..can’t u see it ?
It’s not even random or I will ,at some point ,could play all my 60 cards ..but there are cards on my deck I don’t play like from weeks because they never happen and I play at least 10 games on the best of 3 everyday .
Another prove is that if I add a card I’m ur deck u probably will play at the first games .
I can’t play any,ore so frustrating to finish games or with 2 lands or 10 lands over 13 cards ..
For sure u will do NOTHING -
Adeseus#19846 commented
Here we go again, better than 40 percent chance to draw a land and here I am turn 8 and the same two lands I started with.

I finally uninstalled your game for the final time. I've had it with the amoung of rigging that goes on with this game. You cannot convince me that this game is not rigged to make the user want to spend money.
I was playing Boros Burn - a rather good deck in the current meta - and went on a massive winning streak in the ladder, getting to Gold 3 without any issues at all. Today, all of a sudden, I start getting the most awful starting hands I've had with the deck. To the point where I was getting 2 Plains and 3 Raijus in hand. I had to mulligan my starting hand in 6 out of 7 games! I'm sorry, that's just not normal. It doesn't make any sense that a deck that never had these issues before all of a sudden starts having the worst possible draws and starting hands.
Also, I find it curious that, in my matches before today, I was playing versus a good diversity of decks. Today, I was paired with at least 5 mono black players. Hum... How curious that I'm matched versus the deck that counters mine the most so many times. But I'm sure it's just a coincidence, right?Anyways, others before me have complained about your rigged shuffler. I certainly won't be the last. Wizards, it's time for you to listen to your players and get rid of this broken shuffler. Until you do, I am not touching your game again. And, in all honesty, I'm sorry for those who will keep experiencing this shuffler and the frustrations that come from it.

I have a 40 percent chance to draw any land. I have 8 spells in my deck one drops that allow me to draw lands. I am crushing my opponent despite only having two lands for 6 rounds and 3 lands for 9 rounds, I lose in 11 rounds having the two lands I started with and the one land I drew. That sirs is a joke. I understand one game where I have a 50 percent chance in my deck to draw something to take me to a land. Not one time but now 12 time in the last week. I went from 40 percent chance to now 50 percent. Tell me the game isn't rigging the games to be close. That person was waxed and yet the game decided you know what he'll use one card return everything to my hand and because I don't draw another land for the rest of the match he comes back to win.

Everytime ******* time, i have to mullingan because i have only 1 or 2 lands in my hands (and not only one colour when i have a multicolor deck !!!). Or i only have lands !!! And i don't talk about cards people draw !!! It's not real probability we can have !!! Go fix your ******* algorithm, *******, because, this is really a scam ! We put money in it !!! ******** sons of bitchs !!!

TLDR: Unless they add a game mode that’s completely random matchmaking I am done with this garbage game and going to paper only.
Came here to add to the list of frustrated players, I’m about to uninstall Arena. My main complaints are…. You guessed it… The matchmaking and shuffling.
I can deal with the poor shuffling, although it sucks loosing games from drawing 10 creatures or lands on a row with no mix of the two. I’m totally done with the matchmaking though. I either get paired with people that have top tier meta decks packed with rares and mythics who trigger 30 abilities every turn, or the EXACT counter to my deck that perfectly undermines every card I throw out every turn.
God forbid that somehow, against all odds I actually manage to pull off a few wins in a row… the game decides to shut you down and get 30 losses in a row.
I’ve been playing all morning at work due to it being very slow. I put together a new all black deck that had me getting some decent wins at about a 60-70% ratio. Once I got to 10 wins, EVERY game is now a loss. I’ll be close to a win, but then the op pulls that one card that lets them draw three cards, destroy 2+ creatures and gain life and counters all in the same turn ending the game.
Side note of how I build my decks:
I am new to arena only playing for a few weeks now. I found my old box of cards from middle school while moving and it got me into MTG again. I’m mostly free to play, only spending money on the season pass once and a couple of packs here and there so my cards are limited.
I pick a color/play style that I am going for and use whatever random cards I have that kind of work together to make up most of the deck. Then I’ll use 1-3 wild cards (if I have any) to fill in where the deck is lacking. I hardly play any of the “popular” or “meta” cards. All my decks are pretty unique in comparison to everyone else, yet usually come up with something that is actually pretty strong and unexpected since it’s not “meta” like all the try hards play.
But every time… I start getting wins and the game says..NOPE, no more wins for you today… and the losing streak begins.
…End of rant, if you made it to the end I salute you!
