Solutions to combat stalling / roping?
Does WotC actually do anything about players who stall / rope games anymore? Reading the forums, it seems like they cracked down on it once 3 years ago, but no longer take active measures against it.
I suggest adding a rope under the profile tab that gets shorter each time your account is reported for roping, and once your rope runs out, your account is banned. That way people know their are real consequences for their actions, and that WotC takes player conduct seriously.

PLEASE do something about "players" abusing tokens to burn out your timer. This player did it so I could not attack. They are well aware of what they are doing. I have been asking over 4 months for something to be done about this!

Another to add to12 minutes+ roping, I have even reported this player before for exactly the same thing. I'm guessing "influencers" are allowed to do whatever they want as long as they get views?

This is getting really bad, I reported 27/33 players today alone! This wasn't a little stall that could be them thinking etc. this was consistent. Every turn, combat and every main they would wait for timer to pop up or just right before. The tokens being used to refill timer and burn opponents isn't as common. I doubt reporting is doing anything since most of these players have been doing this for weeks now.

Waited over 15 minutes for this players turn. They abuse tokens to refill their timer and force opponents timer to burn out. They burned all my extensions to take a extra turn then again so you can't block or respond, but that wasn't enough they decided to keep doing this over 20 minutes before I just quit.

I spend more time logging and taking screenshots than actually playing the game. Why don't we have the option to block players? I for one hate having to babysit players that feel entitled to win because they copied a pro deck. If you won't help with this option how about punishing these players by having them play in a server with other ropers and not have the option to play those who want to enjoy the game? To be fair have a system that monitors them randomly and if no roping is going on they can move to a regular server.

Literally almost every time I cast hullbreaker horror, I get roped by my opponent. Maybe don't try to always win a match in 3 minutes.... Some of us like matches to last more than 20 minutes. The roping problem is serious and it's always obvious when it is happening vs when it's just the app crashing or poor Internet connection issues. If you rope, you're a salty crybaby with a diaper full of 💩💩💩

This actually wouldn't be that hard to address. The client could build a log of each game. You click "report stalling" at the end of the match and it uploads the data to Wizards. Then a little bot checks the timestamps to see if the opponent was stalling. If it fits within a certain range, the account gets flagged.
The problem is that reporting ropers is too much of a pain. I don't want to spend my free time filling out web forms and uploading HTML logs.
Please fix this, Wizards!

This still occurs and players who use to rope only to pass priority a half second before the rope timer expires are clearly breaching WoTC terms of service by disrupting other players experiences.
Something needs to be done about this, especially in ranked. After 2 consecutive times of going to the rope, the timer should no longer reset until they go 2 consecutive turns of not using the timer.
After that, they should be forced to immediately pass priority within 3 seconds for the rest of the match and then have that penalty applied for x amount of games or hours afterwards.
Additionally, people should be temp banned from competitive play, just like they would be at any DCI sanctioned event for slow play and disruption.

I think they should add an additional loss to the roper and give an additional victory to the person being roped.
It should be fairly easy to do this programatically when the game is won on time out.
This way, the punishment happens regardless of if the user is reported or not. -

First of all the game gives you way too much time in general. Especially in the early turns there just isn't that much to think about.
If they are worried about limiting professionals in tournaments they can just give us an option to increase the timer in direct challenge (something basic that even fanmade free cardgames had in the past but somehow Arena is lacking). If someone is roping to the extreme (waiting for to last second every chance they get) and make many games last way too long then they should be suspended and if they keep doing it outright banned. Make them start their collection from scratch.

The solution is pretty simple and every multiplayer video-game has it implemented:
Temporary Ban for the player leaving a Ranked match (finishing a match by time). So, the first time he can be banned 30 minutes, assuming connection problems or another non expected issue (in the practice, a roper cannot play a match immediately after rope) . Second time it is longer, let's say 2 hours. 3rd time earns a 1 day ban. 4th time a 3 days match and 5th time the whole week.
This count will be reset after a few days without bans. It is a simple way to make players think twice before mess with others time. I mean, I have spent all my time counters in a turn, but not the next turn and the next one... So, yeah, there is no need of Reporting, the same system can do it, like in any other game in the market. -

insufferable, does reporting actually help? About fed up not going to play anymore

I would love the option to blacklist the player or flag them as problem players. This way others know how many players have reported their conduct. If we decide we don't want to play him/her/etc we can block them from playing with the exception of tournament play. If it is more like paper play they will reflect on why no one wants to play.

In MTG Arena I get the stalling/rope daily. To combat the problem I've now taken the issue right to MtG support. Capture log, Snip/Screen shot, REPORT them!! I enjoy the game & have for years. I refuse to let people that Stall/Rope prevent me from enjoying the game win/loss. If we as good players do what we can on our end, I have faith in the support team doing their job. I would LOVE to see a report button in game to report as they do it.

We need a solution for roping/stalling. I think the user profile idea is great, and it can help on the matchmaking process.
A very direct solution is limiting the amount of consecutive timeouts a user can do ie, when the user has 0 timers they should get a maximum of 2 timeouts unless they earn a timer.
