Show phases button in options (or pressing L) don't work
When you set the game to show phases and go out of the settings, it doesn't show the phases still, and when you go back into settings it has unticked itself again. It does this over and over. Once you get locked into this bug, you cannot get the phases to show unless you force full control mode all the time.
Pretty huge bug as it makes you unable to play normally.

Since wotc keeps ignoring this one, and editing registry values is very annoying, especially when having to deal with multiple accounts, you can run this PS script once you are experiencing the bug: https://gist.github.com/Quiquex/ffe798319d93f388b1ea239467d29bb4

I have started experiencing this bug and it's driving me crazy. Also disappointed to see it's been around for months for some people.

Selecting to show phases in the options menu is allowed, but doesn't seem to save, as it does nothing in the games and isn't shown as selected when going back to the options menu.

Selecting Show Phases does nothing.
Pressing "L" as shown on the screen doesn't work. -

This bug still persists as September 2023. It's rather astonishing.

The solution posted below by NotSwiss#73097 still works.
I had to change 2 registry values both with ShowPhaseLadder in its name. Don't forget you can press Ctrl+F to find them faster.

Still happening. Very frustrating to say the least.

Nice to see a fix for Windows 10--anything for macOS? Related to account swapping, I did get logged out due to disconnection and had to log back in before the issue began; perhaps switching the account isn't the issue, but rather, logging out then back in, generally.

I can confirm that NotSwiss's registry edit fix below also worked perfectly to fix this issue for me on Windows 10. I personally had to search through about 6 keys with the 'ShowPhaseLadder' name, but only one of them had the '3' value in error.
I can also back up other reports that this is definitely caused by swapping between accounts because I do so regularly and it's fine as long as I stick to one account but glitches every time I change. This may be only a problem for people also running overlays like UntappedGG ( I run several). As soon as I sign into a new account the problem comes back, but it's always fixed by changing the registry value again from a 3 to a 1 or 2.
Thanks for the fix NotSwiss. I can't believe you worked this out! I'll repost their fix here for visibility.

I think I solved the issue for my machine (Win10). It's related to the registry keys set by MTGA, you need to follow these steps:1. Open Registry Key Editor (Win Key + R -> type 'regedit' -> enter)
2. Navigate to "Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Wizards Of The Coast\MTGA"
3. Search for a key with "ShowPhaseLadder" in the name. It should be something like "BUNCHOFCAPITALCHARS.ShowPhaseLadder", not sure if it's the same for everyone.
4. Set it to 1In my case, this flag was set to "3" which should be impossible, since it's supposed to be a binary value."

Thank you NotSwiss#73097. That worked for me. Can't believe WOTC can charge $1000 for some proxies, but can't get their flagship digital version of the game to work.

I'm amazed this bug has persisted for 6 months now.
I can't even imagine the benefit of not seeing the phases. Who wants this? What purpose does this serve?
I've found a work around that you can tick the settings box out side of a game then exit and relaunch the client. -
