There is no way to pass through first strike damage but stop on regular damage unless a first strike or double strike creature is attacking or blocking. This includes using full control and placing stops on all combat steps. This is a vital option for playing around first strike combat tricks such as the Wandering Emperor.

Well, an attacking or blocking creature with either ability when the combat damage step would begin will make the game have two combat damage steps. Without that, there's only one combat damage step.

You can't stop between first strike damage phase and regular damage phase when there is no creature with first strike or double strike attacking because first strike damage phase only exists if there is an attacking creature with first strike or double strike. There is still a pause both between declaring attackers & declaring blockers and declaring blockers & damage phase in order to cast instants, spells with flash, or use abilities.
edit: ANY creature in combat can have first strike or double strike to make that extra combat damage step, not just attackers. this is why it's good multiple of us look at these to catch the mistakes of others.
now if only wotc employees would actually look at & answer these.
