Interaction between Tawnos Endures and Geralf, the Fleshwright
An opponent controlled Geralf, the Fleshwright. They cast a spell which would trigger the zombie token creation by targeting Geralf. I cast Tawnos Endures on the Geralf, removing it from combat. I believe that should have caused the spell to fizzle, as the only target it had was put into exile. However, the zombie was still created, despite Geralf being out of play.
Do I have a fundamental misunderstanding how how "fizzling" works, or is this a bug?

Maybe I'm still thinking in terms of how the game used to work or something, where someone tries to cast a spell and i add a spell to the stack that resolves first, making the source be unable to trigger (because it's no longer in play) on the spell that casts afterwards.
Of course, I also thought that if the target of a spell (that only has one function) is removed the spell fizzles, which also appears to not be the case.

A trigger on the stack is not affected by the removal of its source. It will eventually resolve and do its thing, as much as it can (putting counters on something no longer existing won't happen, but drawing cards, or making tokens can and will still happen). The token is not created by the spell that fizzled, it is created by the trigger that still gets to resolve.
