omo
Omo, Queen of Vesuva has multiple game-breaking (or should it be rule-breaking?) bugs. A previous poster noted that Omo should allow lands to tap for colorless, being that they are wastes, but furthermore winter moon should prevent a player from untapping more than one nonbasic land and though omo does make lands basic they are also made nonbasic (a land can be both basic and nonbasic at once) meaning that winter moon should prevent an opponent's everything'd lands un-untappable, but they untap nonetheless. I just lost a MH3 draft because Omo came up on my second or third pick after passing up a winter moon, so knowing that winter moons always wheel and that i could probably find another I picked up omo for a land stax brew after consulting with a rules judge who confirmed it would work (as well as tapping for colorless mana). Lo and behold, the colorless mana was relevant earlier but I shrugged it off at the time but after brewing an entire deck around an interaction its a pretty feels bad moment when you realize you brewed around a non-existent strategy due to a bug. Omo is a weird choice for this set in terms of draft, and winter moon is the only card she really synergizes with, pretty disappointing not to get to play it, i know it would have been a ton of fun.

Unlike the basic land types, the Wastes type does not grant an inherrent mana ability (edit: see the other post: Wastes is not a subtype). Wastes has an actual rules text allowing it to tap for one colorless mana. Gaining basic land types also DOESN'T make a land basic. Only by having or gaining the SUPERtype "basic" will a land become a basic land. There are A LOT of nonbasic lands with basic land types. And no, a land is either basic or not, based on wether it has the basic land type or not. It CANNOT be both. Just like a creature cannot be both human and non-human.

Wastes is not a land type. Wastes are basic lands, but they have no type.
Omo also does not make lands basic or non-basic, it only adds land types. That includes the five basic land types, which all grant the mana ability to create the associated colour. A basic Forest with an everything counter on it would be a Basic Land - Plains Island Swamp Mountain Forest Cave Locus etc.
There is no land type that grants a colourless mana ability, the judge you consulted unfortunately gave you incorrect information.
