Algorithm Improvement
I'm sure you're getting a lot of complaints about how one-sided your algorithm is not being impartial and often times screwing over players with land draws that should not be happening in a purely random sample - so my complaint can be added to that pile.
But, an idea for changing the algorithm to improve randomization would be having the program assign a number to each card remaining in a deck and pile shuffling the cards into X amount of piles (let's say 6). It can repeat this process Y amount of times then take the middle of the pile and put those cards on top. A better template would be from the card shuffler for poker sets from stores.

As I understand it, matchmaking it so some degree based on your deck strength, not just your MMR. While I agree with separating MMR somewhat by deck, because some decks are fundamentally stronger, the current system results in you being matched with the same opponents repeatedly because the same kinds of decks all have the same rated deck strength. My mono blue always plays agains dinos and mono red. My Selesnya enchantments always plays Selesnya enchantments mirrors, etc. This gets incredibly repetitive and unfun.

Thanks for giving me ONE blue land and ALL THREE of my Field of Ruin in over ******* twenty draws. ******* annoying
To top it off, the only thing that shouldn't be random, who goes first, is! On the ******* draw seven out of eight games. ThAtS fAiR

Every time I play a new deck in ranked I win 1 game then matchmaking for the next 5 games pits me against the same type of deck. I can’t progress in rank due to the matchmaking process you guys says fair. Not saying I need to win every game but this **** seems to be happening a lot ( since rank reset) so thanks guys for the negative experience

The problem is that there's no such thing as "random" in programming because you have to tell the program what to do on some level.

I have reported this numerous times now and it should be a relatively easy fix. In best of one, the matchmaker goes on long streaks of assigning me to the draw (or play) which, by normal distribution in statistics, are highly improbable at best.
Every time WotC gets clever with matchmaking, hand smoothing, and so on, they just break the game. It's a card game. It's random. Make it that way.

Deck manipulator, check how low my land count is (10 basic). I drew only duplicate cards multiple times and got 8 out of my ten basic lands plus more, again mostly in a row. The reason they picked the basic lands is most likely because the fetch ones shuffle the deck. Most of this started occurring when opponent hit 3 life. I drew impossible odds for several turns at this point so he could win. This is a very common thing I will see playing recently.

Why tf do I get paired against mythic players when I am low plat, have never been mythic and will never be mythic. This game costs money, so I don't enjoy being paired up against grinders for no good reason.

****** canned response from MTG customer support:
Hello,
Thank you for contacting Wizards of the Coast Customer Service. I'm very sorry to hear that you've had some undesirable results while playing MTG Arena. I assure you that our algorithms, including matchmaking, the shuffler, coin flips, and others, have been tested at length and are working as intended. All players are on the same playing field using the exact same rules.I do, however, want to thank you for your concern and feedback on this matter. It is particularly important to our company that your voice is heard, and we will take it into consideration as we strive to build a better experience for you.
I’ll be glad to help you further if you have any other questions or concerns! -

I reported this yesterday as well but the matchmaking is consistently putting me on the Draw for multiple games. This is too consistent to be random chance and it stinks. Please stop messing with the randomness in the game. Every time you do, the lack of sophistication shows. Just don't. Make card draws random. Making paring random within ranks. Make the play/draw be random.
Just stop stacking the deck and the game. Nobody likes it. And the asking if someone enjoyed or didn't enjoy a game after doesn't give any meaningful feedback about what was or wasn't enjoyable. It can't go from that general to something as specific as the shuffler.
We play a card game. We grew up with card games. We understand they are random. Let them be random!

This happens far too frequently. When winning the matchmaker begins throwing games by putting me perpetually on the draw. After four games in a row on the Draw, I was on the Play once. Then it was on the Draw two more times after that. These are not normal distributions and smells of cheating.
Please stop stacking the decks, matchmaking on deck type, and skewing results by throwing games by making players on the Draw. If any of these practices happened in a live event, the cheating scandal would put out such a stink WptC would be in perpetual fire fighting mode. Yet this is standard on arena. Why?
Is it really that difficult to understand that we are playing a card game where cards are randomized and who goes firs is random as well? Do your really need to scam the players?

Arena killed the joy of the game for me entirely. I’ve even stopped going to the local Friday night drafts at the store. Wish I never started

Yes it is utter garbage. I love running into alchemy all the time when I'm playing historic brawl. There is no reason I should see this digital only garbage if I wanted to play it I would go play in the alchemy area. So I conced now to 80% of my games not just because of alchemy and special garbage but the unfair match ups. If I make a deck sometimes I'm stuck in a loop of maybe 8 decks most toxic garbage really boring so I have to switch decks to play a variety. And I play at all times during the day same issues and I'll play 30 or concede games at least at a pop multiple times a day. So it's easy to see this boring algorithm that they have set up. I have a 100 decks and I basically know what decks I will play when I play a certain deck (yawn). When there are so many interesting deck match ups that are not happening even though those commanders are playing during the same time frame. Then on top of it you can see there algorithms pushing certain cards they'll be in almost every opening hand. It poisins the game and is disgusting. No real game when there is no real randomness to a hand. When your seeing the same hands time after time after time. I usually end up in the 3000's for games played each set so I do have some numbers to go by for watching hands.

Make the game fun! I would like to play the cards I put in my deck. I get 1 or 2 lands and don't see more then that for draws and draws. This game is not fun. It's a game of being a practice dummy for the people that continue to drop lots of money on the game. I won't spend any more cash on this game or play it any more if this continues. I hear marvel snap is much better you get to participate in the game. That might be fun. It's a game, people tend to play those to enjoy themselves.

Fix the shuffler. If a deck is 40% land the overwhelming majority of the time you should see more than 3 lands i the the first 15 cards. And a one land opening hand should be extreme anomaly. Yet both of these highly unprobable situations occurred multiple times while playing Bo3 standard. My experience today has been that it is less likely that a game will follow the expected laws of probability than for the most extreme outliers to occur. Coding a reasonable randomizer is something highschool kids get taught in basic computer science class. You can do better. Please fix the shuffler.

Wizards, please advise how your AI bot works, this is BS, how can i roll the AI and then when its about to lose i draw like 5 lands in a row while it gets the cards needed to kill me while its clinging to life, this algorithm is sus as **** and makes me want to steer away from this pile of dung.

How is it possible that I draw 12 lands (almost all in a row as only 4 non lands were in my opening hand) and 5 non lands (4 in the opening hand) the entire game and then the next game I draw low to no lands in my opening hand between mulligans of 1 land or 5 lands...this happens consistently when I play draft and get to 3 or more wins
