Algorithm Improvement
I'm sure you're getting a lot of complaints about how one-sided your algorithm is not being impartial and often times screwing over players with land draws that should not be happening in a purely random sample - so my complaint can be added to that pile.
But, an idea for changing the algorithm to improve randomization would be having the program assign a number to each card remaining in a deck and pile shuffling the cards into X amount of piles (let's say 6). It can repeat this process Y amount of times then take the middle of the pile and put those cards on top. A better template would be from the card shuffler for poker sets from stores.

idea is
1. do distribute before shuffle
- distribute lands
- distribute cards and insert lands every 4 cards

2. split to 12 chunk and random merge it
https://github.com/bluelovers/ws-mtg/blob/9518363fca3c0be1e3e05258919878f6fbf08453/packages/mtg-deck-shuffle/dist/index.cjs.development.js#L21----
optional hack
at begin the match
ask player choose he want at latest has 2 land or not?if all player choose yes
then will make sure player has 2 land in start
if not all player allow this then random chose yes or notthen draw 7 card, if land < 2, random swap a card into library and pick random land out
if handsize is 6 , then only make sure has 1 land -

Wotc just didn't care and they keep The "smoothing"on for purpose
The insolence of this company has reach yet new height and they deleted old thread about this issue.
Here is screenshot from the old thread. They started to get afraid that is why the thread was deleted. If any of you want your money back file a complain with your consumer protection agency, don't wait. They cite the policy and the policy states they can take your money and you have no rights after that.
"WOTC is located in the US State of Washington. You can file a consumer protection complaint online with the Washington State Attorney General’s office at https://fortress.wa.gov/atg/formhandler/ago/ComplaintForm.aspx. Basically complain that due to a defect in their product, you aren’t getting what you paid for, nor are you getting appropriately compensated, and you feel that is a violation of consumer protection laws."
Also consider to give 1-star rating to the MTGA-app on mobile if you feel disappointed to this game.
I got mine back when I brought this issue up and made order issue ticket and I am sure Wotc has to give it to other players also back because the thing they have cooking isn’t technically okay.
https://mtgarena-support.wizards.com/hc/en-us/requests/newIf unsatisfied customers don't have time or don't know how to phrase yourself here is the form I used:
I want full refund of my spent money of the purchase -- invoice: --. I have the full amount of gems to refund on my account and you can just delete the sleeves and avatar off my account.
I made the purchase in belief that I would gain gems to play digital equivalent of the original paper Magic the Gathering. After some gaming I realized that this is not the case and the MTGA is far cry from the paper MTG. MTGA uses Hand Smoothing and opponent deciding algorithms at a level I consider egregious, which derives the game to be completely different than the original paper Magic the Gathering. Smoothing causes some players to build their BO1 decks in a fashion that exploits it.
This has not been made clear to the players who makes the purchases which can be seen as intentionally action. It is never mentioned within the game!
When you are not fixing the problem and not clearly and openly speaking about it, shows clear intent and is borderline fraud. If the refund request is not responded during week -- I am forced to contact this issue to the PayPal buyer protection, and after that to Competition and Consumer Authority if there is no sign of your side of co-operation.

The real question is why are you wasting your time with a game repeatedly that cheats you. Arena is developed to take a **** on you the second to start winning to much. As you already noticed. And yes you will only see certain types of deck depending on what your playing. Its not a fair system. Hasbro is the worst thing to EVER happen to MTG and MTGA. You want things to change stop being a ***** AND TAKE A STAND STOP PLAYING. If the player base dies maybe they will wake up. That's is the only real power you have as a consumer. Take you business else where.

your hand smoothing algorithim changes the math in a deck. It may help new players but it changes the way an experienced players deck works, ptutting them at a disadvantage, which is a direct violation of your terms of service. I have been tracking your shuffler since before hand smoothing, I build a deck in paper and copy it in arena to test your shuffler. Since hand smoothing has been instituted the results are like night to day. The only real option you guys have is give the option to turn off hand smoothing, If a new player starts playing they have it , but for us experienced players who know how to actually build a deck we can turn it off . It won't put us at a disadvantage like being forced to use it does. your terms of service explicitly sys anything that gives an advantage or puts another player at a disadvantage is strictly prohibited and thus it should effect hand smoothing. I hope you do respond and possibly look at the option to turn off hand smoothing seriously as you violating the TOS yourselves would rend them void. I have been playing magic since beta was released and I really would not want to see it tarnished by something so stupid as lack of actual testing of of your programming before installing.

Seriously as i just finished this i played against 2 decks where my opponent had 3 of the same cards in their opening hand and the next game had 3 of the same cards in their opening hand lol.
meanwhile i got 4 lands in a row so the clumping is legit and the program is drunk again and needs to go home -

I came up with a brilliant new product for Wizards of the Coast here..
And here me out.
Fix MTG Arena and then release it after all the bugs and ****** algorithm has been fixed.
Then you can have a product that actually works and is fun to play instead of this hot garbage. Id might actually spend money on it -

OH BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!
More breaking of gameplay that is. The Crimson Vow patch literally broke the shuffler.
Matchmaking is still the most broken part of the game, but now everyone is forced to take mulligans more than 30% of the time.
Less and less matches are fun and challenging. You either stomp to victory or get rolled 80% of the time. Not fun at all. I record and post the results of this travesty of a matchmaking system, but as long as the stans keep shilling out cash to Hasbro for this borderline criminal shell game disguised as an RNG game, nothing will get done.

Hi, I'm contacting you because I'd like to highlight a peculiar characteristic of your shuffling algorhythm. It's a bit complicated to go into the details, but long story short: it's unbearably rigged.
I studied calculus, sure it was some time ago, but I still remember the basics and this constant offense to my intelligence is starting to get on my nerves. This is especially irritating if you take into account that Mtg was originally developed by mathematicians who would imediately understand what's happening seeing the current state of the game.
Or maybe I'm wrong and this is all a misunderstanding - in that case the solution is simple: PUBLISH ON YOUR HOME PAGE THE RULES YOU USE FOR YOUR RNG, or at least add them to your Mtg Arena manual, since Mtg Arena can be easily considered its own version of the game at this point. Remember, you still consider this game to be competitive in nature, so it would be in the interest of everyone to provide as much CLEAR INFORMATION on the game mechanics as possible.
I don't think it's necessary to add screenshots to back up what I'm saying yet, but if I will be ignored because of lack of proper evidence I'll gladly start to collect as much as I can - to help you, of course.
Meanwhile, I'd like to share a Youtube link that will help you understand how there's a limit to how much you can fool and disrespect your customer base:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Ko3TdPy0TU
Hoping to hear from you soon,
A long-time fan of this beautiful game (actually, not a fan anymore) -

#boycottHasbro. The only thing that will address the BLATANT cash grab, pay to win system in place is a coordinated campaign to starve WotC of money. That is it. Stop spending money on ANY product made by WotC and their parent company Hasbro. If you are unwilling to do that, and be vocal on social media, they will never do anything to change their rigged game.

Only gotten worse since this post was made. I uninstalled for 10+ months, come back, and things are WAY worse than before. People need to stop feeding money to these criminals at WotC. Boycott any product made by Hasbro, and be vocal about it. Make WotC brand too toxic for the parent company is the ONLY way to possibly fix these problems, but at this point there is no reprieve. Arena will get worse and worse until it fades into nothing, like every online produce WotC has ever touched.

What is with this matchmaking? Are the only decks left in the historic play queue Life gain, Discard and Burn? Are there really no other combinations of cards found by other players? 185 card decks god drawing against standard 60 cards. How is that mathematically possible? I hate that I still play this game as rigged and biased as it is.

No doubt. Brand new to MTG and MTGA... finished the color challenges... was hoping to play against some real people competitively. And by "competitively", I don't mean winning every hand (again, I'm new). But for crying out loud... the decks I'm put up against... are just... SO STACKED! I get it... they've paid good money to have such decks. But I can't see spending any money until I've learned whether I even like playing MTGA or not. And so far... not. Here I am, with a basic deck, trying to learn and get better. But it's almost impossible when you're facing decks that are so far outside the realm of "basic". Too bad too... I wanted to like this.

I’ve experienced a similar thing. I’ve been playing mtga for a few months now after a decade hiatus from the tabletop format. We’ve all experienced mana flooding/mana shafting; it comes with all card games but this is something unique to the digital format. I will play regularly for a few weeks completing daily challenges and sometimes the daily win challenges without any issues. Then one day I will play 5 or 6 or 7 games in a row and see no land other than what was in my starting hand or nothing but land! I’m playing to turn 10 or so in some of these games and getting a good sample of the deck. It was never this consistent when I played with real cards. Glad I didn’t spend any money on this trip down memory lane, sorry for those of you that did… Deleted the app and not coming back.
Oh, also the tooltip you will see occasionally on load screen that’s says “you can’t loose a rank once you’ve attained it in a given season” or something to that effect is a lie. If you hit one of these streaks prepare to drop a rank.

Remove hand smoothing algorithm because it's not real mtg. It's actually training new players wrongly on how they build their decks and play. The algorithm you had in older games was great and i feel like im not being cheated. This algorium Sucks and caters to new players like wtf were yins thinking and don't tell us we want a more even balance between matches or we wanted new players to enjoy their experience. When i think new players i think what were the other games about for the last 20 years then. The card shuffler in those games felt more realistic. This Sxxx is a disgrace just so you get new players. It's common sense if you have a formula that works stick with it. This aint working because when u have to put 14 lands in a deck to get it to play right that's messed up. Your old games didn't do this. It's makes me sad because mtg is my favorite card game and will always be but dam don't i feel like playing yugioh on the Nintendo switch now because i don't feel like my hand is rigged in that game. See i feel mtg use to be a game where people build decks that played how they wanted and they didn't have to mulligan almost every hand just to get a normal hand that didn't have all land or no lands in it. I rather have the old shuffler back any day of the week and sorry about the rant but just fix it already because this game has lots of potential.

Can't agree more... I just logged 10 mirror matches in a row... using a different deck every 2 games... I am so sick of the match making its crazy. So bored. I made Mythic every season for the last year (except last season with the rotation). But after noticing and getting frustrated over the last couple of weeks, I set this parameter tonight... it happened... so I rage uninstalled the game... and will not be back. So disappointing Wizards.... you've ruined a game I love. I'll now only play in person with mates... the only enjoyable way it seems. Oh, and I also think the shuffler isn't up to scratch at all.. but that's old news. ha.

Hello! I was in a Midnight Hunt traditional draft on game 3 of my match, I was doing well stalling but the current UW draft deck used a form of stalling using like [Devious Cover-Up] and other graveyard-to-Library shufflers to keep myself from drawing my deck too fast (got many faithful mendings). Once my Library got empty from forced draws, I attempted to shuffle cards back into to stay in the game longer using the triggered ability of [Ghostly Castigator]. It would not let me select cards from my graveyard due to the fact that I had no library. The next turn I attempted to keep myself from losing to drawing from an empty deck by using [Devious Cover-Up] on an instant speed [Faithful Mending] before draw step. Same result, was not allowed to shuffle cards in my graveyard to my library. This violates 701.20e which states "If an effect causes a player to shuffle a library containing zero or one cards, abilities that trigger when a library is shuffled will still trigger." I am sad that a really intense games with strong plays was disrupted by the bug and a potential win in a event that only allows 3 matches was possibly taken away.
